Welcome to First Grade! It is a very exciting place to be. Above all we will be learning how to read using our strategies, building number sense, and expressing our ideas. We will study exciting science units such as the life cycle of insects and exploring shadows. Join us as we go on safari to Kenya. Jambo friends! We hope enjoy our page. Explore our pages to learn more.
Homework usually begins with a few weeks of health. In October our regular Helping Hand Reading at Home (RAH) homework will start. It is a weekly homework that goes home on Monday and is returned on Friday. We also send home leveled books for your child to read. Please note that studies prove that reading the same text many times is more beneficial in learning to read than reading a new book each time.
Starting in January the students will be bringing home weekly reading comprehension homework. Dot books are still due weekly. We will also be sending math facts work and word problem assignments. Please do all four steps for each word problem. The steps are listed at the top of each page.
The following websites are some of our favorites for the start of the new school year. Visiting these sites with your child is a great way to expand on their classroom experiences.
